Vir qudam cenam dabat, ad quam Diogenes invitatus est.

Philosophus togam sordidam induit, neque barbam totondit, neque capillos compsit.

Domum viri advenit sed servi eum abegerunt: Abi, sceleste – inquiunt – tu es pauper.

Nemo nisi vir comptus. Nunc sine mora domum viri divitis admissus est, nam togam splendidam gerebat.

Nunc cibus ei offerebatur, vinum fundebatur.

Diogenes tamen cibum et vinum in togae sinum effudit.

Omnes obstiquerunt et causam quaerebant.

At Diogenes: Bibe – inquit – et cibum consume, o optima !

Nam tu non ego cenam invitata es !
